Let’s face it, most of us need to earn a living. But let me ask, are you working for a paycheck or working at a job you love?
Most of the population is working for a paycheck, where they stay at their job, trading time for money, in order to make ends meet. Not always, but quite frequently, the job isn’t fulfilling and they constantly dream of that one day when they can make it on their own and live life on their own terms. Someday…perhaps when they retire.
Does that make sense? That you really do what you love in life when you retire (i.e. advanced in age?). Consider that most Canadians are retiring with almost no savings today and that dream soon seems impossible.
If you are of an entrepreneurial spirit, you are better off following your passion, doing something you enjoy, increasing your skills, and developing yourself further…the money will come if you go deep enough. And passionate enough. And smart enough.
The problem with this is that it’s not easy or else everyone would do it. There is a paying-your-dues period before you strike it rich and truly have freedom. There is no way to predict how long this period is and how much you will reap when you have matured enough in your business to make a decent income.
It’s tough to tell someone, perhaps older, perhaps with a family and financial obligations to give up a job they are miserable at, and to pursue their passion, where they could be poor for a long time, yet be more fulfilled when it hits, provided they get all their ducks in a row and get help to make sure it hits.
If this is something you are struggling with, ask yourself which one of the two can you commit to. Choose wisely.
