If you feel STUCK in your business and can’t seem to grow, don’t yet despair.
You are in what I call the “Entrepreneur Trap”. What this means is that you or your company has reached your full capacity in your business (not “the” full capacity, “your” full capacity) and your workload has grown to the point where you now must grow and move forward.
Unfortunately most entrepreneurs get stuck in the Entrepreneur Trap and do the exact opposite of what they should do: instead of finding long term solutions to cope with the extra workload (stress) and make it easier on everyone (i.e. adding to the team or outsourcing work), they buckle down and get to work trying to find quick solutions that they can do themselves.
Soon their business grows out of hand, it’s too much for the entrepreneur and they spend their day to day putting out fires, working in the business, rather than growing (or, if you prefer the Michael Gruber-ism, working ON the business).
If you are not there already, you may one day arrive there (perhaps soon!). How do you know when you’re in the entrepreneur trap?
- Are you worried about money?
- Is your cash flow week, while expenses high?
- Are you overwhelmed with tasks?
- Are you doing menial tasks that could be outsourced?
- Are you planning big outcomes and results, but can’t get around to making them happen?
- Is your marketing weak because you don’t have time to market; you’re too busy trying to make sales so you don’t lose your shirt.
A proper business and marketing plan could have saved you a lot of grief in your business, but even if you had a plan, things can change, or if your plan wasn’t reviewed by enough experienced entrepreneurs to make it valid – you’re still stuck.
One of the best solutions is to have someone from the outside looking in at you and your business. Someone who has seen where you are, has studied businesses in your position, and most importantly, knows what you need to do to carry forward.
Bill Erichson is such a man. Bill is a business analysis and consultant for both Small Business BC and PACTRAIN Systems and he will tell you exactly what your problem(s) is and how you need to go about solving them.
He really understands the plight of the small business beyond it’s infant years and will hold nothing back in sharing his expertise with desperate entrepreneurs (yes, if you haven’t hit your mark in revenue this year, then you are desperate…to do so).
And he’ll be giving a special presentation on the Dynamics of Business Growth to the Vancouver Business, Marketing and Entrepreneur meetup group on Tuesday, May 25th, at 7pm at the Moxies/Sandman Ballroom.
- If success in your business means anything to you, you need to hear what he has to say.
- If you want to grow your business, rather than shut it down after three years, then you need to bring your questions and pray that you get a chance to ask them.
- If you want your like-minded friends to thank you with drinks and appetizers after the event, then you need to tell your friends to RSVP as well. They will thank you for it.
Don’t let your business fall into a “grow or die” situation. Bill is your Yoda and there is only grow. There is no die.
