On Monday, I wrote about How to Become the Top Expert and Obvious Choice in Your Business Part 1, by being an expert with top of mind relevancy.
Today I’d like to share another way to become the obvious choice and generate massive credibility in your field and industry and that is by being one step ahead in the thought process of your ideal audience.
You want to be able to ask (and answer!) the questions that your probable clients have, but either haven’t asked yet or don’t know how to ask.
This can only be accomplished by doing a Focused Marketing session so you know your clients psychographics so well that you know what’s coming next for them; either because you’ve seen other clients go through the same thing before, or because you’re able to put yourself in their shoes and know what their thought process will be.
Let’s use the example of the Financial Services provider as a case study again.
In this Vancouver Province newspaper article, “Making your assets pay”, Patricia Lovett-Reid, senior vice-president at TD Waterhouse, does a really good job of staying one step ahead of her clients and being relevant in their financial lives by asking, “what do you do with RRSP and TFSA’s after you get them?”
This is powerful and highly relevant because so many people are told to get these but there is far less material on how exactly to make them work in the clients favor. At some point the client is going to want to know, either because he’s tired of putting money away for no discernable reason, or he’s looking for ways to increase his net worth and retire early.
He’ll find what Patricia wrote and will become an instant fan because she is one of the few financial advisors who demonstrates she understands his situation and what to do in his shoes.
And what did Patricia do to get this fan? Nothing, her article did all the work for her to countless people whom she was previously not acquainted with, but who now knows who she is and what she can do for them. (yes, you can point out that the article was via publicity, not her own blog on her Personal Blogging Website, but the same principle applies. Publicity is also a great way to communicate your expertise to the masses, which we have been very successful in doing as well, by the way).
